			5. Special Notes for 6.0.2 users
			--------------------------------

  o UltraLite Beta users

Participants in the UltraLite Beta program cannot use the
shipping software against databases created with the Beta
version. Running the Upgrade utility is not sufficient to
use these Beta databases. You need to unload your data and
reload it in order for it to work with this software.

o No TCP/IP from PalmPilot Personal or PalmPilot Pro

The UltraLite Developer's Guide describes TCP/IP synchronization
from the Palm Computing Platform. TCP/IP synchronization is practical
only from more recent Palm machines. Memory limitations make TCP/IP
synchronization impractical on the PalmPilot Personal and PalmPilot.
      Pro

o Online documentation updated: print documentation not updated

The online documentation has been updated for this version. The
printed documentation is not updated, except for the inclusion
of the UltraLite Developer's Guide. Consult the online documentation
      for the most current information.

o Path restrictions for Windows 95

If the setup program makes the PATH setting in your autoexec.bat file
longer than the system limit, some applications may not function
properly. In this case, edit the PATH setting within your
      autoexec.bat file.

o Known issues in version 6.0.2

With ASA 6.0.2 and Dynamo 3.0.0 in a ASA Open Client Database Site:
Dynamo's Sybase Central plugin will fail when coping and
pasting a script within the site. Attempting a second paste hangs
      Sybase Central.

The ROWCOUNT option to limit the number of rows fetched through a
cursor does not work with ODBC: no rows are fetched. The default
behavior, to fetch all rows, works properly.

The documentation states that you need to use the Java Edition of
Sybase Central to administer remote data access. This is incorrect. The
Windows version of Sybase Central allows remote data administration.

		       4. New Features in Version 6.0.2
		       ---------------------------------

For a more complete description of any of the new features in this release,
see Chapter 1 of the New Features and Upgrading Guide.

To look up the new features in the online help, enter the text provided
  in the index.

  New features include the following:

o UltraLite deployment option. UltraLite databases for small devices such
as the PalmPilot and Windows CE computers can be developed with this
     version of the software.

For information, see the book "UltraLite Deployment Option".

o Performance enhancements. Many aspects of Adaptive Server Anywhere
performance are improved in this version of the software.

o SQL Remote performance enhancements. A major enhancement
     improves replication turnaround times.

For more information, see "Tuning Message Agent performance".

o Backup and Restore SQL statements. Adding BACKUP and RESTORE as SQL
statements provides server side backup and automation of backups using
SQL scripts and backup to tape.

For more information, see "BACKUP statement".

o Security features New security features have been added.

o Database administrators can keep track of activity
performed on a database by turning on the AUDITING option.

For more information, see "Auditing database activity".

o Database administrators can specify a minimum password length,
     to discourage easily discovered passwords.

For more information, see MIN_PASSWORD_LENGTH option.

o DBPing command-line utility for locating servers.

For more information, see The DBPing utility.

o Database connections over TDS, including connections from
Java applications over jConnect, can start a database on a
     server.

For more information, see Supplying a URL for the server.

o From Java applications, you can now retrieve objects from a table
and insert objects into a table without the explicit serialization
and deserialization required in previous releases.

For more information, see Inserting and retrieving objects.

o The ODBC driver has been updated to ODBC 3.51. This
version of ODBC includes support for Unicode applications.

For more information, see ODBC conformance.

o Previous releases have permitted some multi-table queries with
ambiguous join clauses. In the present release, you can set an
     option to disallow such queries.

For more information, see EXTENDED_JOIN_SYNTAX option.

o Options have been added to the administration utilities.

o dbtran. If you use the new -d switch, dbtran puts each operation as
it occurs in the transaction log file. This makes transaction log output
easier to read. This has been added primarily for auditing purposes.

For more information, see The DBTRAN command-line utility.

o dbtran. You can run dbtran against a running database server instead
of against a log file. This feature has been added to increase the
security of the transaction log--there is now no need to access the
     transaction log directly.

For more information, see The DBTRAN command-line utility.

o LTM and SQL Remote Message Agents. New command-line options allow you
to tune message logging from these utilities.

For more information, see The Log Transfer Manager, and The Message Agent.

o New LTM options. New command line options enable you to replicate
only backed up transactions (backup_only), and to shut down as soon as all
     data is replicated (continuous).

For more information, see The LTM configuration file.

o Network or Personal Server. To detect whether you are connected to
a network server or a personal server, use
        select property('IsNetworkServer')
This returns YES if connected to a network server, and NO if connected
     to a personal server.

		  3. New Features in Version 6.0.1
		  ---------------------------------

For a more complete description of any of the new features in this release,
see Chapter 2 of the New Features and Upgrading Guide.

  New features include:

o Windows CE Edition -- You can now use Adaptive Server Anywhere databases
on Windows CE. Also, you can use existing applications such as
Sybase Central to manage your Windows CE database from a desktop
      computer.
This is a complete database server for small devices that use the
Windows CE operating system, and includes SQL Remote replication using
      ActiveSync synchronization.

o Remote data access -- You can access data from external data sources,
including Adaptive Server Anywhere databases and other databases,
      from a single connection.

o Character set translation -- Character set translation has been added
to translate strings automatically between different character sets as
data is passed between client applications and the database server.
This enables more flexibility in mixed character-set environments.

  o New Java features
o You can use standard UPDATE statements to update a field in a
	  Java column.
o You can install compressed JAR and ZIP files into a database.
o You can wrap a Java method in a stored procedure to return
result sets from a Java method to the calling environment.
o New standard internal connection -- The new method of obtaining
a connection from internal Java classes corresponds to
	  proposed Java standards.

  o New SQL Remote features
o The SQL Remote Message Agent can be made to run in a minimized
window using the -q command-line switch.
o New flexibility has been built into the methods for polling
for incoming messages and requesting that lost messages be
	  resent.
o The Message Agent for Adaptive Server Enterprise has a new method
for keeping the size of the stable queue small.

  o Additional Features
o Extended Message statement and message callbacks -- These allow
applications to receive and process messages from the database server
	  during query processing.
o More control over operating system threads -- The -gx command-line
switch allows you to alter the number of operating system threads
	  in use.
o Connection property system procedures -- These allow you to obtain
more information about connection information and database settings.

		  2. Known Limitations and Problems
		  ---------------------------------

The following is a list of known limitations and problems with the
  current software:

  2.1 Windows 3.x and Java

The Windows 3.x database server supports Java in the database. However,
the Windows 8.3 file name limitation makes .java and .class file names
invalid on this operating system, and so only the asademo.jar file
is installed for Windows 3.x machines.

In order to install the demo examples, you shold run jdemow.sql rather
       than jdemo.sql.

  2.2 Windows 3.x Win32s version

It is documented that the Windows 3.x personal database server
requires version 1.30 or later of the Win32s subsystem.
If you attempt to run the database server with an earlier
version of Win32s, it does not work.

2.3 SQL Remote and Java objects

To extract a database that contains Java objects for SQL Remote,
use the dbxtract command line utility instead of Sybase Central.

You should ensure that the database server has a cache of 8 Mb
when carrying out this task. This is a guideline for running any
       application against a Java-enabled database.

You should use the internal reload option (the default) when carrying
       out this extraction.

  2.4 InfoMaker and PowerBuilder issues

       2.4.1 Installing InfoMaker 6.5

	      System Requirements
	      -------------------
	      - 486 PC or higher
	      - 16 MB RAM (24 recommended)
	      - 45 MB hard drive space, depending on configuration
	      - CD ROM drive
	      - VGA monitor
	      - Windows 95 or Windows NT 3.51 or higher for development
	      - Windows 95, Windows NT, or Window 3.x for deployment

	      Installing on NT 4.0
	      --------------------
You must have Administrator privileges to fully install this
	      product on NT 4.0.

       2.4.2 Known issues for InfoMaker

The following are known issues for InfoMaker release 6.5:

o A composite Data Window using Page() + PageCount() in the
header or footer band displays page 1 of 3, 1 of 3, 1 of 3,
		  instead of 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3.

o The Setfullstate () function causes InfoMaker to fault when
		  called on a simple datawindow.

These issues will be addressed in future maintenance releases of
InfoMaker. Users of PowerStudio 1.5 will not experience these
	      problems.

		     1. Documentation corrections
		     ----------------------------

The following corrections are known significant errors in the printed
documentation. Some of these errors may be fixed in the online
documentation. The page numbers refer to the User's Guide (UG) or the
Reference Manual (RM) unless otherwise noted.

1.1 (RM p. 702) When invoking remote data access procedures such
as sp_remote_tables, you must use the CALL or EXEC keywords. Otherwise
the message "The remote server does not have the ability to support
      this command" may be returned.

1.2 (RM pp 268-269) On these pages, cross references to database options
go to the incorrect destination. To locate the proper destination, look
up the option in the alphabetical list of database options starting
      on p.130.

1.3 (New Features and Upgrading Guide p.69) The line in the pdodb60.ini
file that is written as PBSystemOwner='sys, dbo' should instead read
      PBSystemOwner='sys,dbo,rs_systabgroup'.

  1.4 Windows 98

References to Windows 95 in the software and documentation also
      apply to Windows 98.

1.5 Windows 3.x applications on Windows NT

To run Windows 3.x applications against a Windows NT database server
running on the same machine, you must do the following:
o	Install the Windows NT database server.
o	Install the Windows 3.x personal server.
o Ensure that your Windows 3.x ODBC data source has a CommLinks
	parameter that specifies NamedPipes.

The uninstall program removes the components common to the Windows
3.x and Windows NT installations. If you wish to remove one
installation only, you must uninstall both and reinstall the
software for the desired operating system.

  1.6 Windows 3.x applications on Windows 95/98

To run Windows 3.x applications against a database server running
on the same machine under Windows 95/98, please refer to
      http://techinfo.sybase.com and request technical document
"47817: Adaptive Server Anywhere 6.0 Supported Platforms Matrix",
      or contact Sybase technical support.
