Installation:
-------------

Below is an outline of how to install the software onto your Unix machine.

1. It is recommended that you remove the old installation(s) of Adaptive Server
   Anywhere using
	rm -rf <old_installation_dir>
where <old_installation_dir> is the directory where Adaptive Server Anywhere
was previously installed. If you choose not to remove the old version,
you may encounter version mismatches in language resources and shared
   libraries.

2. To install Adaptive Server Anywhere, run "setup" located in the directory
SYBSasa6ebf in the directory where you un-tarred the file
asa6004linuxrh6.tar.gz. For example, if you have
   asa6004linuxrh6.tar.gz in /tmp, then run /tmp/SYBSasa6ebf/setup.

   Note:
During the installation, you will be prompted for the directory
in which Adaptive Server Anywhere should be installed.
       The default is /opt/SYBSasa6.

3. This installation does not require a particular permission like root. It is
recommended that you install into /opt/SYBSasa6, but is not necessary. The
directory in which you install the software must have read/write permissions.
Similarly, to run the software from any other user account the user must have
the appropriate permissions on these files.

4. Add the bin directory within the installation directory to your search path.
For example, if you installed into /opt/SYBSasa6, add
   /opt/SYBSasa6/bin to your search path.
If you installed Replication Agent or SQL Remote for ASE, then add
   $SYBASE/bin to your search path.
If you installed Sybase Central (Java), then add $SYBASE/sybcentral32/java
to your search path. Also, make sure that the JRE (Java Runtime Executable)
   is in your search path.
The README.1ST file that was copied to the install directory has some
information on where you can obtain the JRE for Linux.

5. Add the lib directory within the installation directory to your library
search path. For example, if you installed into /opt/SYBSasa6,
add /opt/SYBSasa6/lib to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH path.
If you installed Replication Agent or SQL Remote for ASE, then add
   $SYBASE/lib to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH path.

6. Following installation, you should refer to the README.1ST that was installed
in the /opt/SYBSasa6 directory. This file contains release notes
and a quick introduction to using Adaptive Server Anywhere.
